Rebuilding Together Boston with AEW at Roxbury Tenants of Harvard build day

Boston, MA – On September 18, 2025, Rebuilding Together Boston partnered with the AEW Capital Management team, one of the largest real estate investment managers in the world, for a day of service for the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard in Mission Hill.

Volunteers dug deep to embrace their green thumbs and finished transforming a previously run-down plot of land into a vibrant community garden.

The day began with a brief orientation led by RTB staff before venturing to the project site. RTB Project Manager, Jamie Gibson, explained what used to be “an old, unplayable playground,” was ready for a new chapter.

Working in groups of three to four, volunteers began to assemble and install raised garden bed kits around the plot. A volunteer admitted, “we turned it into a game, to see which group could build theirs the quickest,” demonstrating the joy of community building and giving back.

Each bed was lined with chicken wire and filled with soil to prepare a canvas for seed planting and colorful floral arrangements.

After only a few hours of work, the results were striking. A once-empty area will now provide residents, especially seniors, with fresh produce and a beautiful, welcoming outdoor space.

The day’s success was made possible by the energy and willingness of AEW’s volunteers, the appreciation of community members, and support of RTB’s many partners.
