Rebuilding Together Boston at J’s home with Lowe’s Home Improvement Team
Dorchester, MA – Lowe’s Home Improvement Team made their way to the Js’ family home on October 9th to assist Rebuilding Together Boston in a productive rebuild day.
Mr. and Mrs. J have owned their 1900’s colonial house for over 50 years. Mr. J is a Vietnam veteran and National Defense Services Medal recipient. The couple has raised multiple children and now, grandchildren in the house.
From decades of hard work and struggle to playtime with toys, the J’s family home has seen it all. Rebuilding Together Boston entered with the goal of preserving those memories and brightening them for the many years to come.
Volunteers arrived early in the morning and prepared for an efficient day of work. The main areas of focus for the day were painting various halls and rooms in the house and cleaning up the lawn outside.
In the interior, a group of volunteers set up in the entrance room, repainting the walls a cheerful blue and installing a new bench in the foyer. Others focused on repainting the hallway and bathroom walls while experts assisted in replacing the ceiling lights in both the entrance and kitchen.

Mrs. J was overjoyed by the kitchen modifications as volunteers installed brand new pantry, upper, and base cabinet units. The highlight was ultimately a new butcher block, bringing a considerable amount of new workspace to the room.
Outside, volunteers removed debris and began mowing and landscaping for both the front and back yards. By the end of the day, the group successfully filled a 30-yard dumpster with interior and exterior debris.
“Thank you so very much for your day of volunteer community service to assist two seniors who were struggling to keep up with responsibilities of maintaining our property...God bless your partnership with Lowe’s to continue assisting others who need help,” Mrs. J remarked.
Lowe’s volunteers proved to be a priceless resource, with each person bringing a different valuable skill to this rebuild. Thanks to the Js’ welcoming family and Lowe’s volunteers, the day was a complete success.
